Ideum recently had the pleasure of developing a custom interactive kiosk for Baptist Health’s Neurology department in Coral Gables, Florida. Designed to engage hospital visitors and educate them about the human brain, the kiosk features our Brain Odyssey software, which allows visitors to explore one of our most dynamic organs in vivid detail.

Customizable Interactive Exhibit

Brain Odyssey is a customizable interactive exhibit originally created for the Cox Science Center and Aquarium in West Palm Beach, Florida, and developed in collaboration with our partners at Intervoke. Using animated 3D models, the exhibit guides users through different areas of the brain, explaining their functions and helping visitors better understand neurological conditions. Designed for touch-based interaction, it invites people of all ages and backgrounds to explore content at their own pace - making it an ideal fit for both science centers and healthcare environments where education and accessibility are key.

Baptist Health's Neurology department is the latest to license Brain Odyssey, joining the Cox Science Center and Aquarium, the Frost Museum of Science in Miami, and the Copernicus Science Center in Warsaw, Poland — and notably, becoming the first non-science center to do so.

Engineering the Custom Touch Kiosk

This project exemplifies one of our favorite challenges at Ideum: taking a unique need and delivering a solution that seamlessly integrates technology, design, and functionality. Baptist Health required an interactive kiosk that was not only durable for daily public use, but also portable enough to be relocated to a new hospital building in the near future.

Our design team approached this challenge with a focus on balance. The structure needed to be lightweight yet sturdy, minimal yet visually striking. At the same time, it had to complement the hospital’s current aesthetic while remaining adaptable to its future environment. To that end, our industrial designers engineered a custom touch kiosk that meets these demands without compromising elegance. Our in-house fabrication team then took the designs and built a fully custom interactive touch kiosk.

Made from painted wood with aluminum accents, the kiosk is designed for durability as well as visual appeal. It features two of our 55” frameless Inline touch displays, and includes an integrated computer, creating a turnkey exhibit that is sturdy enough for the public space while still being easy to move and re-install in their new location in the future.

The final result is a sleek, modern installation that fits effortlessly into the hospital’s lobby. Its understated form allows the colorful, dynamic Brain Odyssey experience to take center stage, capturing visitors’ attention and inviting scientific exploration in a way that feels both fun and approachable. Projects like this highlight how thoughtful design and interactive technology can come together to create meaningful, educational experiences in public spaces.

Making Neuroscience More Accessible

Hospitals can often feel intimidating, and medical knowledge may seem out of reach for many. By making Brain Odyssey available in a public setting, Baptist Health helps bridge that gap and democratizes access to complex scientific information. The experience empowers patients, families, and the broader community to better understand the brain in a way that is approachable, engaging, and easy to explore.
