Next month, Ideum will be both sponsoring and attending the New Mexico Association of Museums (NMAM) 2026 Conference. Dedicated to uplifting and advocating for cultural institutions across New Mexico, this year’s conference will focus on resilience and adaptability.
Taking place from November 12–13 in Las Cruces, NM, this year’s gathering will examine strategic ways that museums can adapt to current conditions, respond effectively, and prepare for upcoming challenges. At Ideum, we strive to support spaces dedicated to preserving and interpreting information and artifacts around the world. Learning alongside local professionals in the field helps our team create spaces that better serve the institutions and communities that rely on them, and we are especially excited to join this conversation so close to home.
Conference attendees will have the opportunity to tour several museums in Las Cruces during the program, including the Las Cruces Museum of Nature and Science and Taylor-Mesilla Historic Site. Just last year, Ideum partnered with both spaces to develop immersive exhibits that both enhance visitor experiences and archive the local history.
At the Las Cruces Museum of Nature and Science, visitors can Journey to Pluto through an interactive tour of our solar system. The exhibit highlights Clyde Tombaugh’s contributions to astronomy as the best known discoverer of Pluto and his role in establishing the astronomy department at New Mexico State University.
Nearby at the historic Taylor House in the Old Mesilla plaza, Ideum designed a suite of interactive experiences to help visitors connect with both the people and places that defined the region. A custom oral history application where guests and local residents record brief responses to curated prompts, expand an archive that documents the local area and its traditions. This feature is complimented by an archival maps application that explores the broader Mesilla Valley, while a customized architecture explorer highlights how the houses' rooms designs and functions evolved over time.
In addition to being a host sponsor of the conference, Ideum will be present with several members of our design and fabrication teams. We want to meet and speak with you in-person to discuss what challenges your teams are facing and ask how we can adapt, respond, and prepare for what comes next. At Ideum, we believe that all cultural institutions, regardless of scale, deserve access to professional and adaptable tools. We have developed solutions that range from fully custom exhibits and interactives to more self-guided solutions, such as the Reader Rail kiosk with TouchStory.
Attendees of the conference will also be able to view and get hands-on with our versatile and popular Platform touch table, and see other Ideum projects, like recent exhibit Appearances Deceive: Embroideries by Policarpio Valencia which was on exhibit at the Museum of International Folk Art (MOIFA) earlier in the year.
Resilience starts with the right tools and the right conversations. We look forward to learning from our New Mexico colleagues and exploring how we can build more adaptable spaces together.
