In 2025, Ideum celebrated its 25th anniversary. While the company was founded in California, the majority of those 25 years have been spent in New Mexico, where Ideum has been based since 2005. In recent years, one of our goals has been to deepen our work with local clients across the state. Looking back on the year, we’re excited to share five projects we collaborated on in New Mexico.
Currently, visitors and residents in New Mexico have a unique opportunity to experience a cross-section of our work in the northern part of the state. These three projects can be combined into a perfect one-day road trip, showcasing our capabilities in immersive AV design, projection mapping, interactive software development, and 3D animation.
First stop is in Santa Fe, at the Museum of International Folk Art. Appearances Deceive: Embroideries by Policarpio Valencia showcases the work of Nuevomexicano artist Policarpio Valencia (1853-1931). In collaboration with the museum, Ideum created a digital interactive that allows visitors to pan and zoom throughout Valencia’s textiles. Visitors can also explore the reverse side of the textiles, see animations of the text and poems that Valencia stitched into some of the pieces, and read and hear transcripts of these texts in both English and Spanish. The exhibit will be on view in MOIFA’s Hispanic Heritage Wing until July 27, 2026.
The second stop in Santa Fe is at the New Mexico Museum of Art. In collaboration with the exhibit designers and curators at the museum, we created a distinctive prelude for the exhibit Gustave Baumann: The Artist’s Environment. Along the entry corridor of the exhibit, three digital displays play sequential animated scenes based on Baumann’s whimsical and comedic marionette performances. The prelude showcases the meticulous skill of our visual effects team, who recreated each puppet based on Baumann’s original handcrafted marionettes. The exhibit is on display until February 22, 2026.
Heading further North, you will find Valles Caldera National Preserve. Ideum collaborated with the preserve on a new immersive exhibit that can be found in the Volcano Discovery Center. A 12-foot topographic relief map acts as a canvas for the rich history of the caldera to be projected upon. Additionally, four 34” Presenter touch screen displays allow visitors to interact with the map and explore the themes of Cultural History, Geology, Ecology, and Scientific Discovery. The Volcano Discovery Center is open daily from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Travelers to the Southern part of New Mexico also have some options to explore our work in person.
Journey to Pluto is an immersive exhibit that takes visitors on an interactive tour of our solar system. The experience highlights Clyde Tombaugh’s contributions to astronomy. Tombaugh is best known as the discoverer of Pluto, but in Las Cruces, New Mexico, he is equally celebrated for his role in establishing the astronomy department at New Mexico State University. The exhibit is on display at the Las Cruces Museum of Nature and Science, which is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday.
We developed a suite of interactive experiences for the Taylor-Mesilla Historic Site that allows visitors to engage deeply with the region’s history and architecture. A custom oral history application enables guests and local residents to record short responses to curated prompts, contributing to a growing archive that highlights the evolution of the area and its traditions. Complementing this, an archival maps application explores the broader Mesilla Valley, while a customized architecture explorer invites visitors to dive into the historic Taylor House, revealing how the design and use of its rooms evolved over time. Together, these experiences connect visitors to both the people and the spaces that shaped the site’s unique story.
Together, these five projects reflect both the range of Ideum’s capabilities and our deep connection to New Mexico. From immersive storytelling and interactive software to large-scale AV and projection mapping, each collaboration represents a shared commitment to creating meaningful, engaging experiences for public audiences. As we celebrate 25 years, we’re proud to continue building lasting partnerships close to home and look forward to contributing to many more New Mexico projects in the years ahead.
