Last month, we explored how our ultrawide 5K Reader Rail touch screen kiosks have evolved since their debut almost a decade ago. What started as custom Presenter touch displays has grown into full-featured, all-in-one touch screen kiosks that have become staple interactive museum displays in institutions across the country. Earlier this year, we released TouchStory — the no-code software builder exclusively for the Reader Rail Kiosk — and last month, we announced an updated laminate and aluminum design. Today, we're excited to announce two new add-ons that bring even more accessibility and flexibility to this versatile touch screen kiosk.

Introducing Reader Rail Kiosk Add-Ons

Two new accessories are now available for the Reader Rail Kiosk interactive museum display: an audio handset and a microphone. Both are built for durability in high-traffic public spaces — just like the touch screen kiosk itself.

Audio Handset

The handset mounts on either side of the Reader Rail Kiosk and is hardwired directly to the integrated computer for seamless integration with your digital exhibit. A one-touch magnetic hanger makes it intuitive for visitors to pick up and replace the handset with minimal effort. This add-on gives museums greater control over audio in the gallery, eliminating sound spillover into surrounding spaces. It's also a meaningful accessibility enhancement, offering visitors with hearing impairments a more concentrated, immersive listening experience.

Low-Profile Microphone

The microphone attaches to the back of the touch screen kiosk - on the left, center, or right side — and is likewise hardwired into the computer for a reliable, stable connection. Its low-profile, cardioid design captures audio from the front of the kiosk, and a built-in indicator light clearly signals when recording is active. This add-on is ideal for interactive museum display applications that require visitor audio input, such as the Veteran Interview Station at Siouxland Freedom Park.

Custom Accessories

While the audio handsets and low-profile microphones are now standard accessory offerings for the Reader Rail Kiosk, we also can create custom add-ons to suit specific needs. Custom options can include AudioNav devices which improves accessibility for those with impaired vision, or webcams and body tracking cameras for augmented reality or video recording exhibits.

Reader Rail Kiosk Add-Ons Available Now

The audio handsets and microphones are available for new Reader Rail Kiosk purchases, and can also be retrofitted to existing touch screen kiosk systems. In either case, just reach out to our sales team to discuss configuration options, and upgrade your museum space today.
