This past weekend, we finally got a chance to visit the Science Museum in London to see how visitors are interacting with our custom touch tables. In late 2019, Ideum designed and fabricated two fully custom touch tables featured in the museum's new collection, Medicine: The Wellcome Galleries.

Our fully integrated multitouch tables house Ideum PCs to run the museum's interactive applications on our expansive 86" Colossus screens, which (coincidentally) use a touch sensor from UK-based Zytronic. The screens are flush-mounted in a white solid-surface top we fabricated using HIMACS, an eco-friendly material that's durable, handsome, pleasing to the touch, and easy to keep clean.

We designed each table a matching custom base that bolts firmly to the floor with a very small footprint, both matching the aesthetics of the exhibition and maximizing accessibility. Most of our tables are engineered and shipped with detailed instructions so they can be installed easily and safely by the client, but Ideum is available to assist with installations worldwide.

The exhibit itself is a captivating experience, packed with "the most significant medical collections in the world … explor[ing] our relationship with medicine and health through more than 500 years of history." Visitors seem especially drawn to one of our tables which hosts a multiuser game focusing on the impact of infectious diseases. (Ironically, it was the COVID-19 health emergency that kept us from seeing these tables in action for so long.) If you're in London, don't miss this museum and exhibit.

We're in Europe this week for the installation of an interactive wine bar for a major European cruise line—more on that soon—and will be back this summer for multiple installations in France, Germany, and Poland. Watch this space for more about this unique installation and additional European adventures!
