On July 25th, Valles Caldera National Preserve celebrated its 25th anniversary. On this day, the Preserve also celebrated the grand opening of the Volcano Discovery Center, which includes a new interactive exhibit.
The Ideum team has been collaborating with Valles Caldera on this exhibit since October 2024, and we were excited to see it open to the public. Our team visited the opening, and it was inspiring to see so many different types of individuals interested in the caldera and how it formed. From children to members of the indigenous communities, to geologists and others, everyone was actively engaged during their shared experience of the exhibit.
The exhibit consists of a 12-foot topographic relief map, which is projected upon with interactive animations that bring the story of the Caldera to life. Guests interact with the map through four 34” Presenter displays, which allow guests to bring up a collection of stories that relate to four themes: Geology, Ecology, Cultural History, and Scientific Discovery.
The Volcano Discovery Center also includes two digital docent systems that run on 86" and 65" Ideum Presenter displays. These interactive systems allow guests to explore detailed park maps, read FAQs, check real-time alerts, and even access a live seismograph feed from within the park.
The Volcano Discovery Center is located inside the preserve and is open daily between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
