The electromagnetic spectrum is a fundamental tool in astronomy, allowing scientists to study celestial objects by analyzing different types of electromagnetic radiation. Besides a small sliver of visible light, wavelengths of the spectrum cannot be seen with the naked eye but require imaging technology. Our EM Spectrum exhibit provides a way to see the invisible. As visitors move images across a large ultrawide touch table, multispectral images are revealed in different wavelengths. This popular exhibit is now included with the purchase of a Pano ultrawide touch table.

The EM Spectrum exhibit is on display around the world

Over fifteen years ago, Ideum developed an ultrawide custom touch table and our first EM Spectrum exhibit software version. This early projection-based touch table system had relatively low resolution. However, moving images across the table and the spectrum, to see celestial objects in different wavelengths, worked well, and visitors found it engaging. This first installation was developed with Adventure Science Center in Nashville, Tennessee, on an exhibition we developed with Ralph Appelbaum and Associates.

Years later, the exhibit was reworked and redeveloped for the Museum of Science and Industry. A redesigned version with all new media was developed for the Telus World of Science in Vancouver. We researched and acquired new celestial objects and conducted a series of multispectral shoots, adding terrestrial images.

Since then, the exhibit has been installed at a variety of science museums and planetariums, including Museo Interactive Mirador in Chile, Petrosains, the Discovery Centre in Malaysia, the German Röntgen Museum, and other museums around the world. In each instance, the EM Spectrum exhibit was customized to make it multilingual to help better connect with visitors in each country.

The Pano Touch Table

The Pano is a unique touch table with dual 4K 49” LG commercial displays and a single glass touch sensor. The Pano has an ultrawide resolution of 7680 x 2160. Like all our products, the Pano is hardened and ready for public spaces. The frame and chassis are all-aluminum, and it is a lockable, secure, and turnkey system. You can learn more about the Pano ultrawide touch table on our website.
