Ideum collaborated with the Monterey Bay Aquarium to create four custom touch towers for the On the Horizon area of the Into the Deep exhibition. These four fabricated towers are located in an area where visitors can also see out into the bay itself. Each unit has an 86” ‘stretch’ monitor with a custom touch sensor, along with a unique 33” square monitor on the top of the custom cabinets. Monterey Bay staff created the interactive application which presents amazing images from the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute’s (MBARI) Instagram feed.
The towers were made to fit in with the color and design of the hallway area. Along with the aesthetic qualities these units were designed to be easy to access and maintain. Ideum specified all of the hardware components, fabricated the cases, and installed the units at the aquarium.
The interactive towers provide opportunities for visitors to see the latest images from MBARI deepening their understanding of marine science. Into the Deep focuses on the “undiscovered ocean” – with “the largest collection of deep-sea animals in North America.” Ideum was thrilled to play a small part in helping put together this amazing exhibition.
