Compensation: $15.00 /hour
Position Type: Internship.
Location: On-site in Corrales, New Mexico.
We seek a full-time Intern to work with our Creative Services (CS) group. This is a paid, fixed-term internship of 10-11 weeks (depending on the candidate’s availability and the timing of the hire). The CS group at Ideum develops interactive experiences for museums and other public spaces. Responsibilities may vary but include testing applications in various phases of development as a core part of the job. Depending on the candidate, they may also work with various teams within CS: graphic production, content development, social media, 3D printing, or programming, along with IOT electronics development.
The testing part of the job may involve multitouch screens, motion recognition, voice recognition, and other emerging technologies. We will work with the candidate to help them learn (tune, and if necessary, devise) the proper testing systems.
The candidate needs to be passionate about new technology and about this position. We are looking for someone who is technologically proficient and has a deep knowledge of PC systems in particular. Visual design, writing, programming, and electronics experience are major pluses. The candidate will need to be able to contribute to technical documentation, client support, and social media, so strong written and verbal and communication skills are required. In addition, the position does require some repetitive work; we need a candidate that is comfortable with repetition and is extremely thorough. The candidate must be extremely proactive in both noting and communicating any aspect of an application (or other work) that seems illogical, broken, unintuitive, or in any way not behaving as expected.
This position will spend 20 hours/wk performing the user interface and software testing as described above. Tasks for the remaining 20 hours/wk will be determined by the qualifications and interests of the internship candidate. Those 20 hours may be spent programming, working on electronics in the shop, designing applications or marketing materials, writing, 3D modeling and/or animating, shooting and/or editing video and audio, producing graphics, or working on other aspects of Ideum’s varied hardware and software production. We are currently hiring for one internship position starting early October and ending Dec 16. This is a fixed term, 10 or 11 week position.
Ideum develops custom multitouch and HCI exhibits for museums, nonprofit organizations, and socially responsible companies. The firm has worked on custom software and hardware projects with some of the world’s top museums such as: Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, The Field Museum, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Museum of Science and Industry (Chicago), Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, SFMOMA, and more. In addition, Ideum has worked with Fortune 500 companies and iconic brands such as: Apple, Adobe, Coca-Cola, Boeing, Hewlett-Packard, Intel, Union Pacific, and others. We are an internationally recognized interactive design firm located in Corrales, New Mexico (near Albuquerque, an hour from Santa Fe).
