Our Software Initiatives

Ideum supports three software initiatives that are focused on the next phase in computing. GestureWorks and Open Exhibits focus on multitouch, tangible interfaces, motion, voice-recognition, and other emerging types of user interaction.

Tangible Engine

Ideum’s Tangible Engine is a Configurator / Visualizer, and software development kit (SDK) that allows developers to easily connect their applications to real-world objects on Ideum multitouch tables. The Tangible Engine creates possibilities for building memorable, mixed-reality experiences. Tangible Engine is available with 55" and 65" Ideum tables and comes with sample conductive objects and instructions for 3D printing new ones.

GestureWorks

The GestureWorks software development kit (SDK) supports hundreds of multitouch gestures and can be used with a variety of software languages including: C++, C#, Java, and Python. Originally developed to be the ultimate SDK for multitouch, GestureWorks will soon incorporate motion gestures, sensor input and other HCI features.

Open Exhibits

Open Exhibits is a multitouch authoring development kit that is free to use for most applications. The software, developed using ActionScript, incorporates over six years of development by the Ideum team. Open Exhibits received National Science Foundation funding from 2010 to 2014 and is now supported by the Institute for Museum and Library Studies.
