Chess Software Basics is an interactive electronic exhibit that explains the fundamentals of chess software and introduces visitors to programming concepts such as; game trees, minimax, alpha-beta pruning, among others. In addition, the interactive exhibit presents some of the historic milestones in chess software development.

The program was developed for the Mastering the Game: A History of Computer Chess exhibition developed by Van Sickle and Rolleri and the The Computer History Museum. The exhibit was developed using Macromedia Flash. It is currently available on the museum floor and on the Computer History Museum's Website.
